A museum dedicated to late music legend Ray Charles has opened in Los Angeles. The Ray Charles Memorial Library is comprised of seven galleries in an office building built by the star in the inner city neighborhood of Harvard Heights. The facility officially opened September 23, 2011 on what would have been the star's 80th birthday.

It's filled with music and video recordings, memorabilia and Charles' personal belongings. The museum is run by a non-profit organization Charles founded in 1986 to help underprivileged kids and the museum is currently only open for school groups. The general public is expected to be allowed entry in 2011.

Charles died in 2004 at the age of 73.
